Smells Lab

Recently we did a smells lab. In this lab we had to smell several different elements that had different smells such as minty, fishy, sweet, or putrid. Some of the things that we smelled in the little test tube like containers had the same elements such as isoamyl acetate and ethyl valerate. These two compounds had the same chemical formula - C7H14O2. The structures were different but they both produced the same smell, sweet. Several of the compounds did this. The lab was very interesting.
